The Search For The Ideal Body

What would you sacrifice for an ideal body? A survey by Good Housekeeping of more than 4,250 readers found that 14% said they would trade 1 to 5 years of their life for a perfect body, and 3% would give up more than five years; 11% would give up sex.

Looking at the issues behind body image for women, the survey found that 88% say their body weight and/ or shape is at least moderately important to them, 87% have undertaken a diet to change their weight or shape, and 45% make food choices based largely by their weight or size (or the weight/size they want to be).

Thirty-two percent believe that losing weight or being thin is a sign of self-discipline or fitness; 69% agree or strongly agree that being overweight or gaining weight is generally unhealthy. And 60% say that how they feel about themselves is largely influenced by their weight, shape, or size.
